Planet wide
We search the feckless fallen
For a human bride

To satisfy our calling
To appease the God inside
With a counterpart so generous and kind.

It is suicide
And yet we carry forward
With no end in sight
Through holocaust and horror
To a world of living night
We leave the waking universe behind.

To our ends
In defense
Of the empires of the mind.

Through the atom fields
Through subatomic marshes
Without sleep or meals
Through Saturn's climates harshest
Past the eels and iron wheels
Who would seek to rend the quanta from our bone.

We'll bring smoke and steel
To the ether and vibration
As we blindly feel
Through her green imagination
But we'll wonder if it's real
And if we could really be so far from home.

But we'll fight
Lest you might
Forever be alone.

(Ruth, Violin? WTF RUTH.)

And when all is done
Our generals shall assemble
Underneath their sun
To construct a living temple
As a beacon to the one
Whose nervous system circulates our lore.

And then home we'll come
With all our bells and spoils
Banging victory drums
To celebrate our toils
And we'll know our war is won.
Though to her we'll seem a dream and nothing more.

But it's so
And she'll always know deep down
That she is yours.
